From Traditional to Innovative: Blogs About Legal Matters

There have been a few times in my life that I have needed a lawyer, and during those times, their help was invaluable. I worked with lawyers during the custody battle for my kids, when I dissolved the partnership for my business and after I suffered an injury at work. In this blog, I plan to write about the law from a range of angles. I may share posts inspired by my personal experiences, what's popular in the news or what strikes my fancy when I'm writing. I have a daughter, Oliva. I manage a medical clinic, and I love blogging. I hope you like the results. My name is Melinda, and thanks for reading!

When to hire a lawyer after a car accident

by Júnia Melo

If you've been in a car accident, there are a lot of things you need to think about. You need to tend to injuries, damages on your car and possible insurance issues. Most smaller accidents are possible to solve in a fairly simple manner if you and the other driver or drivers involved agree on the circumstances of the accident. However, sometimes you might need the help of motor vehicle accident lawyer to make sure your interests are protected and that you don't take on any blame for something that isn't your fault. To know whether or not you should get a lawyer involved after a car accident, here are a few things you can think about.

Injuries

If anybody involved in the accident has suffered injuries, you should definitely make sure to contact a lawyer. If you're the one who's injured, a lawyer can help you get all your medical bills paid for either by your insurance company or the other driver involved. The same goes if there's someone in your car who has gotten injured. If the other driver has gotten injured, you might need a lawyer to protect yourself from having to pay too much in indemnity or to defend you in court.

Third party

You should also get in touch with a lawyer if any other vehicles, people or property has gotten affected by the accident than you and the other vehicle responsible for the accident. If you, for example, get hit by another vehicle and your car goes crashing in to a third vehicle because of the impact of the crash, that third driver might put claims on both you and the other driver involved. To protect yourself legally while also making sure no blame is put on you because of the damages caused to the third vehicle, you need a lawyer to help you.

Disagreement

You should also contact a lawyer if you and the other driver don't agree on the circumstances for the accident when it has happened. This is also the case with small accidents with few vehicle damages. If you can't come to an agreement, you might end up having to defend yourself in court, in which case you'll need a lawyer that has been with you from the beginning and knows everything about the circumstances surrounding the accident. This is extra important if you disagree on who's at fault for the crash, as this might cost you a lot of money if it's decided in court that you're the one responsible.
